Adcote School for Girls
Background and Expectation
Adcote School is an independent day and boarding school for girls founded at the start of the 20th century. It is the only all girl independent school for pupils ages 4 -18 in Shropshire, where it is located in 30 acres of beautiful countryside, the main body of which is contained within a Grade 1 listed building. It is surrounded by twenty-seven acres of gardens and playing fields, and the buildings were designed to Tudor specifications.
As recent as 2013 Adcote School was ranked the 4th highest academic achieving school throughout the country, with almost 70% of pupils at A Level gaining A grades. Students must take four subjects on entering into sixth form, with a variety of traditional to more contemporary subjects available to choose from when studying at GCSE and iGCSE level.
The school has an excellent special learning programme for individual student needs, which is in fact run by its very own department.
The school is heavily involved with the Duke of Edinburgh scheme as well as being one of the few educational practitioners of gymnastics in the region. The school offers a diverse selection of sports such as rowing, golf, athletics, lacrosse and netball. For those students wishing to pursue equestrian sports, extra tuition is available if required. The sports programme also includes Ju-jitsu, whose emphasis is not only on teaching the girl self-defence, but is there to encourage responsibility and strong character building.
The arts programmes play a large role at Adcote, especially in maintaining the ethos of the school, which is not only just concerned with continuing academic success at the highest possible level, but to prepare the girls to become ladies of the future, with the emphasis as much on character as anything else.
The school also has inter-house drama competition as well as several productions a year. Theatre studies and drama, dance and singing can be studied at GCSE and A Level, but proving even more popular with the less theoretical BTEC diploma course.
