Founded in 1827, Bearwood College’s beautiful wooded 125-acre estate offers an abundance of facilities and world-class education and care to children aged from 3 months to 18 years. The school has four separate departments: a Nursery (3 months to 5 years), Pre-Prep (age 4–7), Prep (age 7–11) and Senior (age 11–18). The College welcomes both day pupils and boarders aged 11 to 18.
Aims and ethos
The school aims to provide:
– a spirit of inquisitiveness and self-motivation
– a focus on developing a sense of responsibility
– a stimulating curriculum that offers choice, breadth and depth across a wide range of academic and vocational disciplines
– the necessary practical, creative and enterprise skills required for lifelong learning and active citizenship.
The academic curriculum is based on the requirements of the National Curriculum, yet Bearwood does its utmost to expand upon the Curriculum to provide a stimulating, fun and imaginative learning experience.
Small teaching groups, co-ordinated pastoral support, the conscientious monitoring of development, and a close working partnership with parents and guardians ensure that the College helps its pupils to thrive.
Facilities, games and activities
Bearwood College really does make good use of the inspiring surroundings of the wider campus. A large lake, two well-kept golf courses, a well-equipped boathouse, woodlands with an obstacle course, riding stables, a fitness trail and a mountain bike course can all be found in the vicinity.

Competition and fair play are encouraged and exercised through a full programme of 100+ sports, games and activities. Students are encouraged, guided and nurtured in areas where they have special expertise.
