Fyling Hall School

Fyling Hall is a co-educational independent school situated in Robin Hood Bay five miles away from historic Whitby, and currently has 170 students. Geographically the school is very close to the North York Moors National Park, and sits in 45 acres of its own land, complete with wooded lots and fields.

Academic Delights
The school offers 14 – 15 subjects at GCSE level with 3 – 4 subjects to be chosen when entering sixth form for A Level studies.

For international students each child receives English language tuition from a specialist teacher, which is taught separately to their regular core lessons, and is specifically designed for each student, thus providing them with a learning plan geared towards their development.

Extracurricular Interests
There are many after work clubs which provide everything from sports to drama, with daily meetings/lessons scheduled, plus weekends. There is also a climbing wall for rock climbing enthusiasts, a literacy club, a debating club, an engineering club and projects involving the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

There are all the expected sport disciplines, but pride of place is the stables – onsite – which has eight ponies and horses. Riding is very popular at the school among all ages; especially as there are miles and miles of bridleways ranging across the nearby National Park.

Main House is a restored Georgian House that is home to the girl boarders, whose view of the Whitby coastline is breathtaking. The boys live in Mulgrave House close-by, and the senior boys are accommodated at Ramsdale House, also onsite. All houses have their own adult guardians who are have great experience in running houses for international and local boarders.

There is a modern music block which contains studios and soundproofed rooms, each with their own state-of-the-art equipment. Drama is supported by the Barn theatre space, which is used for winter and autumn productions. During spring and summer, weather permitting, the walled Rose Garden is often used to stage productions.

As for sports there is the gym with the aforementioned climbing wall, plus tennis courts and playing fields.
