Moreton Hall Prep School
Moreton Hall Prep School is an international co-educational school situated in Bury St. Edmunds. It caters for students from pre-school to prep school age.
At the pre-prep stage students attend classes of fourteen, whilst at prep students average eighteen a class. In prep a total of thirteen subjects are taught, including Mathematics, Craft and Science.
At the beginning of each new term students must complete an internal entrance revision test before proceeding into the next year, which helps keep students committed to producing a level of work achieved in the school year prior.
The majority of the students at Moreton Hall are full-time boarders, and as such their curricular activities extend beyond the school timetable in the week, but also into the weekend. Many students take the 13+ scholarships, and for those who do not speak English as a first language and who feel that they might require improvement with their language skills, small classes can be arranged with a specialist teacher.
There is a healthy selection of sports to choose from, the main disciplines being hockey, netball, football, badminton, cross country and tennis, all of which are competitively contested with other schools in the region in year two.
There are a number of clubs at the school, such as Mandarin, Spanish, Poetry, Speech & Drama, Chess, Squash, Textiles, Computing, Judo and Scottish Dancing.
Music is also as equally popular as any of the main sports or extracurricular activities, though it is important to note that music is taught as a curriculum subject, too. Moreton has a national reputation for its excellent music programme and has won several awards, which is why all students enrolling in the music programme are taught according to the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations.
Moreton provides flexi, weekly and full term boarding. The students are accommodated in dormitories, with full-time onsite house staff available throughout the day and night. Each house is fully equipped with the latest technology including high-speed internet access, which is limited to the various ages and is restricted entirely from 11 pm onwards.
