A pioneer of education
With the spectacular moorland, countryside and coastal landscapes of Devon and Cornwall in close proximity, the co-educational Plymouth College is well-positioned to deliver an inspiring education.
Since 1877, Plymouth College has been at the forefront of education in the South West of England and, while determined to maintain some of its traditions and values, it remains forward-looking and dynamic.
Pure contentment as a boarder
Plymouth College currently has boarders from more than 40 different countries. In what is a true home from home atmosphere, boarding gives pupils the chance to live life to the full and acts as a platform for living independently in the future.
Boarders at Plymouth College are never short of activities to occupy their free time. Off-site pursuits include tenpin bowling, ice skating, cinema trips, surfing, moorland walking and horse riding.
Excellence in education
The College’s educational aims are underpinned by excellent teaching, alongside a variety of activities and a high standard of care. This approach is confirmed by the School’s GCSE and A-level exam results, which are consistently above the national average. Results for the International Baccalaureate results are just as impressive, with an overall score of 32.5 points in 2013, the equivalent of more than three A*s at A-level.
Education is not solely about learning in the classroom at Plymouth College. In extra-curricular disciplines, all abilities are catered for. For those with an extraordinary talent for swimming, the College runs an elite swimming programme that has nurtured an Olympic champion, world champion and world record holder. In addition, the School’s Basketball and Rugby Academies have national standings, while Modern Pentathlon and an excellent Diving Academy serve to develop international athletes.
Another thriving department is Music and Performing Arts, which holds school productions and regular trips to the theatre. A plethora of musical ensembles are offered and the School’s musicians perform in concerts across the city.
A unique enrichment programme includes a range of after-school clubs and outward bound opportunities.
