A distinguished history and glorious location
With a rich tradition spanning almost 350 years, Read is a deliberately small and caring school which is very welcoming to international pupils. Set in a peaceful, rural location in the county of North Yorkshire, Read is in close proximity to the cities of Leeds and York while also not far from the Yorkshire Coast.
Boarding and pastoral care
Boarding houses at Read are run by committed and enthusiastic resident staff who oversee the personal and academic development of pupils in their care. Read pupils quickly get used to the unique family atmosphere.
Theatre visits, shopping visits, visits to places of historical interest, bowling, cinema, restaurants, ice skating and many other activities are organised for boarders.
A wide range of academic studies are available at GCSE and A-levels. A broad range of academic abilities and subjects taught are catered for, including maths, chemistry, physics, biology, English, languages (French, Spanish, Latin), geography, history, ICT, design technology, art, business studies, psychology, drama and theatre studies, and sport and PE.
Support and help with IELTS and PET preparation is provided for international students.
There are activities for everyone at Read, from the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), football, hockey, rugby, swimming, cricket, netball, rounders, badminton, computer club, cooking, film club, gardening, drama, choir, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
Boarders have full use of facilities such as the multi-use games area, the sports hall, drama studio, large sports pitches, new science laboratories, and creative arts faculty. There is also a new, fully equipped Sixth Form Centre.
