The Repton community at home in its stunning setting
Located in the picturesque village of Repton in the county of Derbyshire, Repton School is fully co-educational with a strong boarding ethos. The heart of the school is based around the 12th-century Priory with its beautiful Garth and Cloisters.
A traditional House system helps to mould a cohesive, family environment. Boarding houses are spread throughout the village so that boarders feel part of the local community. Day pupils are fully integrated with boarders. Inter-house rivalry is healthy.
“Willing” and “welcoming” Reptionians
Reptonians realise that motivation is just as important as their ability; they are encouraged to and prepared to have a go, to get involved and to raise their own global awareness through discovery and personal experience. This means taking advantage of the School’s “sleeves rolled up” philosophy. Through this they get to know strengths and passions that will help them attain goals and realise their dreams.
With a strong desire to get out into the local community, willingness permeates every aspect of a Repton pupil’s life and truly sets them apart. Each week Repton pupils help out in local primary schools, dig the gardens of the elderly and volunteer to participate in a range of other community service activities. There are other outstanding cases of Reptonians making a difference. It has been known for pupils to run races to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, while Repton School has raised over 20,000 pounds for the Dreamland School in Ghana.
Visitors to the school, such as those coming to deliver lectures and master classes, frequently comment on how welcoming and polite pupils are. The House system, with lunch taken together each day, often sees guests join pupils at the table.
Facilities of a different kind
Right across the board, particularly in Music, Drama and Art, Repton possesses world-class facilities. In September 2013, a new state-of-the-art Science Priory was opened with key facilities to develop and to promote excellence in science teaching, links with industry and external research projects.
Repton School achieves excellent exam results at both GCSE and A-level, while around 95% of sixth-form leavers enrol on courses at a wide range of leading universities, such as Oxford and Cambridge.
With a collection of national and regional titles to its name, Repton has a distinguished tradition of sporting excellence. The sports programme has a positive influence on all ages and abilities of pupils who all benefit from facilities which include all-weather hockey pitches, an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and a cricket ground that is the envy of many schools.
The culture of societies at Repton continues to thrive. One of which is The Parry Society which was formed so that the academic musicians of the School can hear presentations on every kind of music, given by experts in their fields.
