Alexanders College

Alexanders College, formerly Alexanders International School, has over 30 years’ experience in children’s education and is situated on a beautiful 120-acre campus on the Suffolk coast. As an independent residential college, boys and girls, aged 13 years and above, are welcomed from all over the world. For younger students or those with a lower language level, the School’s Academic Preparation Programme is their first step. Otherwise, entrees can enrol on the GCSE/IGCSE or A-level programmes.

GCSE/IGCSE programme (one or two years)*
The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations are taken by pupils prior to entry into the Sixth Form (age 16+).
Subjects offered are English as a second language; mathematics; art and design or global perspectives; co-ordinated science; business studies; information and communication technology (ICT). Additional non-examination subjects may be offered.

Duration: 2 years
Entry requirements: Intermediate English + strong school report. Testing may be required.
*Accelerated One Year GCSE courses may be available to strong candidates

A-level Programme
A-levels (GCE Advanced levels) are highly valued qualifications recognised by all UK universities and by many institutions internationally, in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Far East.

These two-year programmes are assessed by:
• written examinations (all subjects)
• coursework (most subjects)
• practical skills (some subjects such as art, science, etc).

Students will normally choose to study two to four subjects from the following: mathematics; chemistry; physics; biology; business studies; economics; art; ICT (information and communications technology).

Duration: 2 years
Entry requirements: Upper Intermediate English + strong school report, entry tests in English and mathematics and Skype interview.

Academic Preparation Programme
Open to students with lower starting levels in English. The syllabus builds upon and expands the current language level. Core subjects: English language; mathematics; business studies (subject to language level); combined science (biology, chemistry and physics); art and design; global perspectives; information and communication technology (ICT); personal, social, health and economic education (PSHEe); physical education
Age: 13 years and above
Start: September, January or April
Duration: 1, 2 or 3 terms
Entry requirements: Strong school report and English placement test

Away from the classroom
A rich and varied sports programme is provided throughout the school year. Alexanders has high-class sports facilities including its own Water Sports Centre, and a dedicated team of full-time sports coaches. The nationally accredited Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is offered at both Bronze and Silver levels.

Social activities are central to life at Alexanders College. In addition, excursions for educational purposes are organised, a supervised programme of optional recreational visits is offered each term, and weekly shopping trips to nearby Cambridge, Norwich, Colchester and Ipswich are arranged by the College.

Residential matters
Although academic classes are co-educational, boys and girls live separately. There are four separate student residences on campus and students reside on a shared basis. All bedrooms are well-equipped, homely and comfortable.
