St Joseph’s College (Ipswich)
St. Joseph’s College is a co-educational independent school in Ipswich. It sits in sixty acres of private grounds, though it is but a short and pleasant walk to the train station.
Lessons are timetabled at 65 minutes per class, covering a diverse range of exciting and fascinating subjects. At Key Stage 3 students are slowly introduced to the prospect of taking their GCSEs one day, with a team of specialists for both the academic and the pastoral available to help students adjust or simply talk through any queries they might have.
In years 7 – 9 students are generally thought to be able to work alone or in small groups in preparation for their GCSEs, though Key learning skills are still delivered by the teaching staff.
In year 9 with the help of the Stage Management Team who liaise with parents, the students are then presented with their GCSE curriculum which also includes core subjects.
A student-run council is responsible for the variety of activities, ones which are both physical and intellectually stimulating. There are trips both domestically and overseas, sports events and even school discos. There are many after school clubs where students can learn Spanish, create art projects, play golf, learn self-defence and go sailing, all of which are taught by specialists.
Extracurricular activities are also discussed in special assemblies that parents are invited to attend, in order to keep them abreast of any developments or changes they think pertinent to their child.
Goldrood House accommodates the younger males of the school, in which they live and sleep in dormitories, though some of the older boys will share with one or two other students. The Mews accommodates the girls, but there is also a boy’s gallery, too. The houses have identical facilities, which include spacious lounges with computers, TVs and games. There are also study spaces/rooms and fully equipped kitchens.
In-house staff is available around the clock, with patrolling security also available 24 hours a day, to ensure the maximum safety and security.
