Tasis – The American School in England
TASIS The American School in England’s fully residential programme serves as a second home to 190 students (ages 14–18), while the community as a whole also serves 740 students (ages 3-18) who come from more than 50 countries world-wide. The focus of the TASIS programme includes personal development, a love of learning that will last long after graduation and an appreciation of living among many different cultures.
The School makes excellent use of its proximity to central London (18 miles) and Heathrow Airport (8 miles) in order to expand students’ education beyond the classroom. Excursions and field trips to a variety of locations are organized both in the UK and abroad.
Top notch facilities
The extensive 46-acre campus includes excellent facilities for learning and recreation that combine historic buildings, modern classrooms and six fully-equipped laboratories. Also at students’ disposal are full WIFI access anywhere on campus, an innovation centre and three libraries. In addition to the educational facilities, the campus also boasts a 350-seat theatre and space for art and music, as well as two gymnasia, a fitness centre, tennis and basketball courts, and several full-sized playing fields.
Students are housed in community-oriented single-sex dormitories under the care of a resident teacher. A typical dormitory will host 13-15 students with two to three students per room. The Health Centre provides round the clock care by highly qualified nursing staff and a School doctor on call.
Excellence in education
Class sizes normally consist of no more than 15 students, which allows each student highly personalised attention and an excellent learning environment in which they move through a challenging university-preparatory curricula. The curricula include the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and the American high school diploma, as well as a choice of 20 Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Students are provided with individual guidance for university entrance and go on to attend a variety of prestigious universities in the US, UK, Canada and worldwide. Children of American Expatriates make up 60% of the TASIS England student body, while non-native English speakers can take advantage of a well-established and integrated English Language programme.
Beyond the classroom
TASIS England contributes to students’ personal development outside the classroom by offering a wide range of extracurricular activities. The broad and active athletic programme also allows teams representing TASIS England to take part in competitions in both Europe and places farther afield. Additional opportunities for community service are available along with activities that develop leadership skills, such as the Model United Nations and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Available for both day students and boarders, the School’s summer programme provides cultural enrichment through the visual arts, television broadcasting and theatre as well as English language learning and exam preparation for IELTS, TOEFL and SAT Review. Additional activities, sport and excursions round out the summer experience. The programme is also available to those not enrolled in TASIS England’s academic year. The English Language Summer Programme is a member of English UK and is accredited by The British Council.
