Taunton School

Taunton School was founded in 1847 and is one of the top co-educational independent day and boarding schools located in the South West. Children aged 2-18 years live and learn at a campus situated on a stunning 50-acre site. The focus of Taunton’s broad-minded environment is personal and individual development that encourages students to develop the life skills needed to shape the future.

The Four Schools
A Nursery, Pre-Preparatory School, Preparatory School and a Senior School make up the full range available at Taunton. A full education for all ages is what Taunton School strives for by developing individuals’ talent and intellect. Taunton demands as much from itself as it does from its pupils.

High academic achievement
Taunton School students consistently achieve high GCSE results and obtain some of the best A-level and International Baccalaureate results in southwest England. Of sixth-form leavers, around 96% go on to university or college places, and places at Oxford and Cambridge have been offered to more than 30 of our students over the last six years.

International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate qualification offered by Taunton is an excellent addition to our highly successful A-level and AS-level programme. This award allows for another means of preparing for tertiary education and other future challenges.

Scholarships, bursaries and awards
Scholarships at Taunton are not just offered in order for top students to achieve good academic results and to improve our reputation. All students, including Scholars, are encouraged to develop themselves in all arenas, not just the academic. There are numerous opportunities to participate in art, music, and drama. Additionally, a new athletic programme takes a mind-body approach to achievement in sport.

Like a second home
A warm and friendly environment is offered to children aged 7 to 18 years. The Preparatory School level (aged 7–13 years) recreates a family environment, with small, single-sex dormitories for girls as well as top-notch common rooms and recreational areas. Here children learn to become independent and self-confident in order to prepare for future challenges. For the Senior School, the boarding environment provides pupils with opportunities for cultural enrichment and physical activity. They are guided in the development of life skills within a relaxed but carefully monitored atmosphere, surrounded by friends. The sixth form boarding experience includes encouraging pupils to take full advantage of a wide range of opportunities provided to them so they can easily transition to higher education and job market. Taunton places considerable emphasis on academic achievement, but is careful to foster among its older pupils a sense of responsibility and development of social interests.
