University Of Glasgow Entry Requirements

The University welcomes applications from candidates who have sat BTEC National Diploma (Level 3) Qualifications. The University recognises that an increasing number of schools/colleges are offering a combination of BTEC qualifications together with A Levels.

Depending on the type of BTEC qualification, they may be used for:

  • direct access to 1st year of some degree programmes (without any other qualifications); OR
  • direct access to 1st year of some degree programmes provided you also have specific A Level or GCSE subjects; OR
  • admission to some degree programmes as a substitute for 1 A Level subject (i.e. you require BTEC qualification plus 2 A Levels); OR
  • admission to some degree programmes as a substitute for 2 A Level subject (i.e. you require BTEC qualification plus 1 A Level).

In the UK, all university applications (including those submitted by international students like you) go through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, more commonly known as UCAS.

Most undergraduate courses will share the same deadline of 31 January of every year. Some courses such as Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences and universities such as Oxford and Cambridge have an earlier deadline of 16 October in the year before admission.

The University of Glasgow has risen five places in the QS World Rankings 2024 to the 76th out of the 1,503 institutions included. This result means the University of Glasgow is now among the top 5% of institutions in the global rankings.The University also performed strongly in the International Students indicator, which measures international reputation and on-campus diversity, and the new Sustainability indicator, measuring social and environmental impact. This follows the news earlier this month that the University was ranked 13th globally in the THE Impact Rankings for its contribution to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

University of Glasgow Accommodation

The accommodation at University of Glasgow is complemented by fully trained living support staff, comprising wardens and senior living support assistants, employed to offer personal support on a wide variety of issues that may arise during student’s stay. Unlike other universities, University of Glasgow offers 39 or 52 week contracts instead of 43 or 44. The fee ranges from £4,460 to £8,321 for 2023/2024 entry. The residential types include Classic Ensuite, Premium 1, Premium 2, Premium 3, Premium 4, Classic Studio, and Premium 1 Studio.

  1. £23,520 for Arts and Social Sciences programmes and Law – Graduate entry accelerated (M115) (LLB),
  2. £27,390 for Science, Engineering, Nursing and College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences programmes, 
  3. £33,500 for Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS),
  4. £48,960 for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), and
  5. £53,460 for MBChB and College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences clinical programmes

University of Glasgow Facilities

The university boasts several libraries, including the main university library and specialised libraries for disciplines such as medicine, law, and chemistry with 2.5 million physical volumes across all campus libraries, (4.3 million including e-books). These libraries provide access to extensive print and digital collections, study spaces, and research support. Other facilities include laboratories, The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, Medical and Health Services, and others.

University of Glasgow Student Activities and Clubs

There are over 300 SRC (Students Representative Council) affiliated clubs and societies at University of Glasgow. They provide a wide range of clubs and societies starting for arts, languages, culture, technology, environment, food, faith or anything in between. There are also more than 50 clubs dedicated to sport and activities. Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA) is the oldest student body on campus.
