UCAS Application 2020 Guide And Timeline - What You Need To Know

If you are applying for UK universities, you have to plan months ahead to make sure your application is a success. Strict application deadlines need to be adhered to so as to ensure you get into the university of your choice.

For many, this can be a stressful process, especially since getting into University is a huge milestone in a student’s life. For many, this is the one chance they’ve got.

4th September 2019

If you are applying to join the 2021 intake for university, you should start planning as early as September 2019. Starting from this date, you can officially start applying for UK universities. 
 
Take note that if you are applying for most courses in Oxford and Cambridge University, you need to apply before 15 of October!
 
For other universities, make sure you apply before 15 of January, as that is the closing date for UCAS applications for majority of undergraduates courses.

25th February 2020

On this date, UCAS extra opens. UCAS extra allows you to apply for a 6th university choice. (Normally, in UCAS you can only apply for 5 universities). You can use this opportunity to seek additional offers and re-apply to Universities throughout the UCAS extra period until it closes on 5th July 2020.

Reply Deadlines For UCAS

There are a number of deadlines to adhere to once you’ve received replies from UCAS. For example, if you receive all decisions (university offers) by 31st March 2020, you have to reply by 5th May 2020. Refer to the infographic for the full list of reply deadlines. In general, you have about 1 month to reply after receiving all offers.

6th July 2020 - UCAS Clearing Opens

On 6th July, UCAS applications and extra have closed. If you didn’t get the university of your choice, or didn’t meet the criteria to join, you can opt to apply for remaining universities that still have spots via the UCAS Clearing.

Results Day - A Levels And IB

Assuming you’ve received conditional offers from your universities of choice, a very important aspect is your final results to see if you qualify. 

But that’s not all, you must also sit for additional entrance exams (such as UCAT and BMAT for Medicine, if applicable), pass your English tests, ace your entrance interviews and write a good personal statement

If you manage to complete all of this, congratulations! You’ve made it into University!
